Gourmet’s Diary of a Foodie

Categories: Articles, Food Culture

The term “foodie” is a cringe word for me, sounds pretentious.

However, I admit, after reading the definition of the word “foodie”, it somewhat redeemed itself and I don’t feel as apprehensive to using this word, or referring to myself as one. This is the definition according to wikipedia:

Gourmets vs Foodies
Although the two terms are sometimes used interchangeably, foodies differ from gourmets in that gourmets are epicures of refined taste who may or may not be professionals in the food industry, whereas foodies are amateurs who simply love food for consumption, study, preparation, and news. Gourmets simply want to eat the best food, whereas foodies want to learn everything about food, both the best and the ordinary, and about the science, industry, and personalities surrounding food.
The PBS show, Gourmet’s Diary of a Foodie, has enriched my life, although for me cooking shows have interested me since I was way young, growing up with Julia Child, Jacque Pepin, Jeff Smith-Frugal Gourmet, Justin Wilson-Louisiana Cookin, Yan Can Cook and now an amorous fan of the Food Network, Anthony Bourdain, Top Chef, etc…but this show, “Diary of a Foodie”….creme de la creme of cooking and travel shows.
These shows are inspiring, simple, unpretentious, educational and enlightening.
I hope they enrich you as they have for me and inspire you to eat new and different foods, particularly of other cultures, so as to not only satisfy your hunger but to discover a new experience with food culture. Enjoy!
