Chicken Grape Salad

Chicken Grape Salad

1 avocado (benefits LV, protects Yin)
¼ cup of parsley, minced.
½ teaspoon of thyme.
¼ teaspoon of garlic, minced.
Pinch of sage, salt and black pepper.
4 cups of diced, cooked chicken breasts. (Nourishes blood to prevent wind)
2 cups of seedless grapes. (sour nature restrains liver qi, nourishes blood, relieves irritability)
½ cup of pistachios, toasted. (Tonifies LV)

Mix herbs and spices with chicken, mix in mashed avocado until chicken is coated and then mix in Grapes and almonds.

Serves 4

4 — 28 oz cans of Whole Peeled Tomatoes
1 Cup Black Beans
1 Cup Kidney Beans
8 Grapes
6 Carrots
4 Beets
1 Onion

33 Grams Gou Qi Zi
2 Cinnamon Sticks (Rou Gui)

Prep and Cooking:
Put both cups of beans in a colander and wash under cold water. Dump the beans into a large pot and soak in twice the level of beans in water for about 30 minutes. Drain the beans in the colander again and wash off (the soaking, draining, and washing off helps reduce the usual flatulence that goes along with eating beans). Dump the beans back into the large pot and fill up with twice the level of beans with water and boil for about 45 minutes, drain off, and put back in the pot to add in the rest of the ingredients.

Cut up the 4 cans of Whole Peeled Tomatoes into the pot with the beans. Wash off the beets and carrots, skin them, and chop them into about 1 inch cubes/pieces and dump into the pot. Drop in the Grapes.

Cut up the onion and heat in a pan with your choice of oil until clear or golden…that’s your choice!

Bring the pot with the ingredients to a boil and reduce to a simmer. Add in the Gou Qi Zi and Cinnamon Sticks. Leave the pot on simmer for about 2 hours.

Light-n-Lively Starfruit Juice

Light-n-Lively Starfruit Juice

for after a tough day in the garden, or as an anecdote to too much Mexican and Margaritas.

To make a pitcher :
5 large stalks of Celery (cleaned, but don’t need to be trimmed)
4 Starfruit (Carambola)
3 cups of Grapes (cleaned with skins and seeds)
1 Lime (If possible, use mature, dark green limes that are kept at room temperature and rolled around on a hard surface before juicing. This will give you the most amount of juice and the best quality.)
And a few Sprigs of Mint.
Serve with halved grapes or sliced starfruit in a chilled glass. Enjoy!

Recipe for Damp Heat in the UB
When a patient is suffering from damp heat in the lower burner, there are not many dessert recipes they should probably be eating- since sweet and nourishing foods will not encourage the pattern to resolve. Therefore, I have written a recipe for a drink that will be very refreshing and will aid in removing the damp heat from the body.
This recipe would be cool and detoxifying. Some of the ingredients drain damp, treat Lin disorder and promote urination- while also promoting fluids. This would be great for Damp Heat in the Lower Burner, Summer Heat, and many other patterns dealing with Heat and Damp conditions. It could also be used to detoxify the body and purify the liver.

For Damp Heat drink 1 cup twice daily.
Drink 3 cups and eat minimally if the goal is to detoxify the body.

Fig and Grape Couscous Pudding

Fig and Grape Couscous Pudding

2 figs
2 cups of red grapes
½ cup of raisins or goji berries
1 cup of couscous
2 tbsp raw honey
1 tsp sea salt
1 ½ cups water.

Blend figs and grapes together until they form a thick soup. Bring water
to a boil and add couscous and blended fruits. Reduce heat to low and
boil for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in raw honey, sea salt, and
raisins/goji berries. Cover and let sit for five minutes, then spoon out
onto a plate and mold as desired (pudding will begin to cool and thicken
to a pasty consistency).

Makes 3-6 servings.

This recipe may be used to nourish Kidney yin and, to some extent, jing.

Figs: sweet, neutral, SP, LU, LI. Reinforces the SP/ST, moistens the LU
and throat, moistens the Intestines and promotes bowel movements. From the
vantage point of systematic correspondence, figs could be said to benefit
the male reproductive system, particularly in cases of impotence from low
sperm count. They grow in pairs, closely resemble the testicles, and
contain many small seeds.

Grapes/raisins: sweet, sl. sour, neutral. KD, LV, ST. Reinforces the LV
and KD, replenishes qi and blood, promotes production of body fluids,
promotes urination.

Raw honey: It is important to use raw honey that has not been filtered
because it will then retain active enzymes and bee pollen which benefit
the middle jiao and nourish KD jing.

Couscous: Couldn’t find any info on the energetic properties of this
grain. Seeing as how it’s in the wheat family, I would judge its
properties to be sweet and neutral – warm, entering the SP, ST, and KD.

Vegetable-Bean Medley

Vegetable-Bean Medley

Serving Size for 1 Person

Black Beans -½ cup cooked
Aduki Beans -½ cup cooked
Quinoa- 1 cup
Carrots -½ cup
Celery -½ cup
Lime Juice -¼ cup
Grapes -½ cup

Cooking Instructions:

This is simple. All you do is mix the quinoa with 2 cups of water and cook the same way as the rice. Mix the steamed veggies along with the already cooked beans, and the grapes. Sprinkle desired amount of lime juice to give flavor to the food. The grapes will provide a sweet reward for every bite of bitter doused vegetables and protein filled beans. This dish is perfect for on-the-go lunches if prepared in a large amount.

This recipe is intended for someone with blood and yin xu leading to heat in the liver, or just a stagnant liver system due to a stagnation of blood which turns to heat and damaging the fluids.

½  Watermelon

1 Bushel of Grapes

1 C Lotus Seeds (Soaked)

2 Carrots

1 Bag of Spinach


  • Soak the lotus seeds in water over night.
  • Cut up the watermelon and grapes. Grate the carrots with a large handheld grater or use a vegetable peeler.
  • Place all of the ingredients into a large bowl and stir it up.

Serve for your friends or family when the sun is out, temperature is up, and you want to get your thirst on!

This recipe is intended to be used during the summer months when folks need to quench their thirst, battle the summer heat, and nourish body fluids.  Most of the ingredients are cold to help reduce heat for summer heat, insomnia or palpitations and support the overall approach to nourish fluids.  Ingredients like Watermelon and Grape are going to help promote urination while Lotus Seed is going to astringe and hold in the essence.
